Adobe CS5: Changing the mobile landscape
Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen announced that they would have an Adobe Creative Suite 5 global launch event on April 12, 2010. There have been rumors of several new and innovative features added to the suite such as new brush and painting options and a new content aware fill feature for some time now but if you are not a graphic designer or a photographer how will the new Adobe update impact your business? Mr. Narayen has made it very clear that his first priority is helping your business achieve maximum impact by reaching the broadest number of customers possible.
To help with this goal, last year Adobe acquired a new company called Omniture, the leading provider of business optimization and analytics, which they integrated directly into CS5. This will enable you to measure the contents performance, which includes analytics, tracking, and reporting whether it is an advertisement or a web page on any device it is consumed on. They understand that it is no longer about the content you create it is about optimizing it on a variety of devices. The majority of consumers are no longer only viewing your content on their home computers; with the contestant change of web enabled devices such as iPhones, iPads, Android enabled phones, Windows phone 7, and WebOS phones it is even more vital to your business that your web presence is monitored for its effectiveness and of course to make sure that as these operating systems keep changing your content/ layout is changing as well. We have all seen web sites that were designed a decade ago that are no longer compliant with the new stricter rules of modern formats. Aside from that content potentially not displaying as originally envisioned it also looks unprofessional and worst of all dated.
Adobe Flash has been debated for years now. As with any innovative piece of technology once Flash became the premiere software for dynamic content that your users can easily and efficiently interact with people began looking for newer technology. In recent months with the announcement that Apple Iphones, Ipod Touches, and Ipads will not be flash compatible people have been looking to HTML5 to provide similar services that flash offers. All devices, without the need for an additional plug-in such as Flash Player or Microsoft Silverlight, already support HTML5. This has gained notoriety with the release of the iPad as it does not support standard flash video but does have HTML5 support. Adobe Flash CS5 has made dramatic improvements for the developer, most importantly being the ability to convert the flash file into a native HTML5 video that’s compatible with several devices. It is very interesting to see what Adobe CS5 has to offer in terms of a new flash experience. This new flash experience lets you create one piece of content and convert it to several formats so your users can view your content on not only your desktop and laptop but also almost every type of cell phone, netbook, tablet, and even your television.
These improvements are most noticeable to developers but what does that mean for the business owner? Because of the innovative way flash included these features into the software it lets even small business create applications anyone can view and a dramatically lower cost. It is no longer about just creating a web site for your business, it is equally as important to be able to access it from any mobile device your customer owns.
While improvements such as Omniture offer a clear and definite value to your businesses online presence some improvements are not as obvious. Adobe has always been about increasing people’s ability to design and create new ideas. New features such as better layer management, mini bridge, customizable bristle tips, lens corrections features, extended 3D features and browser lab give your web developers endless possibilities to make your web presence stand out and be unique among the other millions of sites available to your customers. It is very important to stay on top of current technologies and the current web environment because new customers are more likely to compare you to your competitors using sites like Google and Bing except now they will be searching for you on their portable device. To stand out from the vast array of options is no simple task but Adobe CS5 is giving small and large businesses alike the limitless possibilities of your web developer’s creativity and then being able to actually test its effectiveness in the real world.
Mobile content is the wave of the future. To be successful with their online objectives, companies must find innovative ways to present their content in an intuitive and effective manner. Adobe CS5 will give businesses more options to create their online presence not only in a faster time frame but also most importantly at a reduced price. Adobe’s new suite will help developers easily bridge the gap, and ultimately, make it easier and cheaper for businesses to adopt these new platforms and take advantage of new mediums to promote their message.
